Five to follow on the Flat from Ireland
With the Flat season now underway, time to take a look at some Irish horses selected by Danny Scutchings to keep an eye on
1: Luxembourg
Trained by Aiden O’Brien
In my opinion should be the standout Irish horse of the season. This exciting prospect is already 5/1 with Paddy Power for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket at the end of April and 7/2 for the Derby at Epsom on 4 June and he should blow all his rivals away.
2: Sacred Bridge
Ger Lyons
Won hfirst four starts over six furlongs including the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes at The Curragh. Didn’t show what she was truly made of when she moved up to Group 1 level in the Cheveley Park Stakes but that can be overlooked and if she handles the step up in trip then she can be a high-class filly.
3: Tuesday
Aiden O’Brien
Was only defeated narrowly by Discoveries on Irish Derby weekend but that was still a highly promising debut on her only run of the season. However she can make up for lost time this campaign and could develop into a serious classic contender.
4: Duke De Sessa
Dermot Weld
Was impressive when he opened his account over a mile at The Curragh in August and despite being beaten in the National Stakes he bounced back to take the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes on his final run of last season. He has the pace to excel and should step up in trip as the season goes on.
5: Star Of India
Aiden O’Brien
Made a decent impression on debut at Leopardstown in October finding plenty in the final furlong. Aiden O’Brien may already have the Derby favourite but in the same field this horse is well worth a look along with the unraced Waterville.
There are many other star horses to look out for this season and these are just my picks and hopefully they will all have an excellent campaign.
