Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle Trends

Before the festival it is always important to carefully research the races before having a bet in them. One way of doing this is to look at the key trends from the race.

@Cameron3012 has compiled the following trends to help pick this years Fred Winter Juvenile winners!

Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle Trends 2017:

  • Last 8/12 winners had not won over hurdles until their 3rd run over them
  • 9/12 ran in previous 25 days + 2 within 37 days  (last year’s winner had been off for 133 days)
  • 7/12 were French imports or French bred (2 of the first 4 were Fr bred in 2014 and 3 of the first 4 were FR bred in 2015 and first 4 home were FR bred in 2016)
  • 5/12 were winners last time out (4 of the other 6 ran in a G1 or G2 LTO)
  • 8 recent winners were by a Group 1 winning sire (including Hawk High in 2014 who we backed at 33-1 being by High Chaparral and Qualando in 2015 being by Lando)
  • 3/9 had won at Sandown previously
  • Pipe has a good record (1 win, 2 seconds and 1 third in 8 years)
  • Nicholls also does very well in this (even with his second strings)
  • Look twice at horses rated 132 and below (usually bottom half of weights) who have a superior record in this (usually halves the field – in 2015, 3 of the first 4 were rated 133 or below)
  • 11/12 rated between 124 and 133 (3 of first 4 last year were rated 133 or below)
  • No winner had run at Cheltenham before
  • Headgear a positive in recent years
  • Big priced horses do win this
  • Nicholls has a high percentage % win and place in last 4 renewals and he’s won 3 of last 5
