RSA Chase Trends

Before the festival it is always important to carefully research the races before having a bet in them. One way of doing this is to look at the key trends from the race.

@Cameron3012 has compiled the following trends to help pick this years RSA Chase winner!

RSA Chase Trends 2017:

  • 21/27 had won over 3m
  • 16/17 ran at least 3 times over fences (Don Poli hadn’t but now 3/10 have won his Trial race in recent years)
  • 21/24 were novice hurdling the season before their win
  • 14/14 finished placed at worst in a G1 or G2
  • French breds have only won 2 of the last 24 (22/24 Irish or GB bred)
  • 19/23 had at least 9 starts
  • 12/15 were aged 7
  • 26/28 were 1st or 2nd on last start (Lord Windermere finished 3rd in a Grade 1 in Ireland before he won in 2013 though)
  • No winner of the Kauto Star Novices Chase (Feltham) at Kempton has followed up here (Royal Vacation won but Might Bite looked a certain winner when fell at the last in that race)
  • The last 51/52 winners raced during the same calendar year (Don Poli defied this stat in 2015)
  • Just three 6 year olds have won since 1978
  • Favourites are only 6/27 although 4 of the last 10 have won
  • Course form is a positive
  • Horses that race prominently do best
  • Mullins has an exemplary record in this – even his “second strings” should be respected (remember Rule Supreme)
  • Last year’s Albert Bartlett has been a good guide in the past (1st Unowwhatimeanharry (Stayers hurdle bound) 2nd Fagan 3rd Champers on Ice 4th Barters Hill (injured) 5th Balko Des Flos)
