Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle is the opening race at the Cheltenham Festival every year and 2018 will be no different! It is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race which is open to 4 year old horses or older. It is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham and has been won by some big names in the past.

The race is usually run at a fast pace and usually has a large number of runners, meaning experience of competing in big fields before Cheltenham is often extremely important. Winners of this race often go on to compete in the Arkle in the following Cheltenham Festival.

With it being the first race on the opening day of the Festival, its start is traditionally greeted by the “Cheltenham Roar”, a loud cheer from the tens of thousands in attendance.
