Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

The Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle is the opening race at the Cheltenham Festival. It is a Grade 1 hurdle race which is open to four-year-old-horses or older and is run on the Old Course.

The race is usually run at a fast pace and frequently has a large number of runners, meaning experience of competing in big fields before Cheltenham is often extremely important. Winners of this race regularly go on to compete in the Arkle in the following year’s Festival.

With it being the first race on the opening day of the Festival, its start is traditionally greeted by the “Cheltenham Roar”, from the packed enclosures
